Reflections on our GYA programme in Lebanon

Following on from our guest blog from Annemiek Hoogenboom highlighting our partnership with the People’s Postcode Lottery, Georgina Mortimer has written on the A World At School blog about the expansion of our Global Youth Ambassador program to Lebanon.

These Global Youth Ambassadors are joining a movement of hundreds of young people around the world who are campaigning to get every child into school and learning. They will continue to campaign – backed by a network of millions of individuals, thousands of NGOs and hundreds of businesses – until enough funding is in place to guarantee every child in Lebanon a place in school and a quality education. Together, they are creating a message that no world leader can ignore.

Previously, our GYA program co-ordinator, Madeline Serena, has written about some of the amazing young people who are leading the fight for education on the ground in Lebanon.

When I talked to him he said: “What are we going to be in the future? We will be illiterate and it will be like we turned back time.”
This is his fear for the generation of out-of-school Syrians. A fear of reversing the cultural and economic progress Syria has made over the last century.
